SmallPDF: A minimalist service that focuses on PDF files

If you work with PDF files, you probably have a few applications installed to do perform different maneuvers, for instance, compressing, converting JPG to PDF, PDF to JPG, merging them etc.

I came across an awesome, minimalist service that lets you do all that, at once place. Check out SmallPDF, a web based services that makes working with PDF files easy.

You don’t need to register for an account or download anything. Just click on what you need, drop the files and it’ll perform the desired task in a matter of seconds (depending on your file size + internet upload speed).

I tried converting an excel file into a PDF using SmallPDF’s excel conversion and it worked like a charm. Nothing popped up (ads), I simply received the download link to my file.

Raindrop.io Lets You Organize All Your Favorite Links On A Cloud Space

There are plenty of bookmarking services available to organize all your important links in a cloud space. The default bookmark option in browsers, has some limitations that’s why we have many free bookmarking services in the Internet offers great features to organize our data. RSS feed applications like Pocket, Feedly, etc., let us save links from the web, social networks, etc., to read later. Raindrop is one such bookmarking application, which offers an excellent interface to organize all our important links in a cloud storage. It helps us save links on the go and offer a comfortable reading interface. Lets have a look at the features and functions of the application.

To start with Raindrop, first you need to sign up with your email id or you can connect your social accounts like Facebook, Twitter, etc., to start using the service. Either you can copy and paste the links or you need Raindrop’s browser extension to save links on the go. As of now, the browser extension is available only for Chrome and for Firefox, it will be available soon. Once you complete the installation, the Raindrop icon will be available in your browser’s URL bar. To save a link, an article or a content, click that icon and you will get a window as shown in the screenshot below.

Similar to other bookmarking applications, it lets you “Add Tags” to the link, to organize them. Also,you can create different categories as “Collections” to save your links. Raindrop can be accessed from web, iPhone and iPad. All the links you’ve saved in different collections will be available on the “My Collections” section on the app’s homepage. There will be option on the top of the homepage to create “New Collections” from the app. By default, all the links you save in “Collections” are private, but there is an option to make it public. You can subscribe to public collections of other users to get more interesting links.

All the links and collections are completely customizable. You can move links between different collections by just a drag and drop. Also, the Smart search will let you quickly find the links on your different Collections and Subscriptions. Similar to other bookmarking services, you can Import/Export bookmarks to the application. How To Enable Facebook Chat Heads On Chrome

When Facebook messenger got a major update, Chat heads were one of the interesting features introduced in the application. It allows you to chat and receive notifications even when you are using a different application. It will display the concerned person’s profile picture and the preview of the message in the random area of the screen. The chat heads can be moved anywhere on the screen and long press to close the conversation. Chat heads option is available only for mobile devices, there is no default option available for PC or web. So, today I’ve come with a new Chrome extension called “Faces.im“, which enables Facebook Chat heads on your browser. Here’s how it works.

The application is pretty simple and easy to install on your browser. You can download the extension using the link at the end of this post. As soon as, you complete the installation, you will see the “Faces” icon near to your URL bar. All you have to do is, just log in to your Facebook account and chat heads will be automatically enabled for the incoming messages. This extension will also let you access the “Personal Messages” section without opening your Facebook account. Click the “Faces” in your browser, to access your Personal Messages Window.

Chat heads will look similar to the ones in the Facebook messenger app. As soon as you receive a new message, the Chat head will pop up in a circle with the profile picture of that particular person. When you hover over the circle, you will get an “x” mark to close the chat and you can click that to open the conversation. Also, you will see a preview of the message you’ve received. To temporarily disable the Chat bubbles, click the “Faces” icon and go to “Personal Messages” window. In the top right corner, you can see “Chat Bubbles” option with “on/off” button to enable and disable it.

Faces is a pretty useful application for people who want to keep in touch with their Facebook Chat all the time. Also, the quick enable/disable option will let you focus on your work. Color Folders For Thunderbird Helps You Quickly Locate Important Folders

Email filtering option is commonly available at all the email services. In Gmail, there is a default option available to filter mails into different labels based on the email id, subject, etc.. Labels are similar to folders, which helps users to organize their incoming mails. Apart from having different label names, you can change label colors to quickly identify them. Thunderbird is one of the popular open source email clients and it has the same folder option to organize the incoming mails. Like Gmail, there is no default option to change the folder colors on Thunderbird. So, today I’ve come with a new add-on called “Color Folder”, which can change the folder colors on Thunderbird to quickly identify it. Here’s how it works.

You can install Color Folder for Thunderbird from the Firefox add-ons section. Add-ons are the biggest strength for Thunderbird. It helps you completely customize the features and functions of the application. As soon as you install the Color Folder in your Thunderbird application, it will enable an option to change folder colors in the right context menu.

All you have to do is, just right click on the folder you need to change the color and choose “Color Folders” option at the end. It will open a side tab, which contains some of the sample colors. Click “More Colors” option in that wind ow, which will open a color choosing window as shown in the screenshot above. Different types of colors can be added to the folders and it can be reverted to default from the same window. The colors won’t be reflected in the sub folders you’ve created. They will remain in the same default yellow color and colors will be applied only to the main folder. If you want, you can change colors of the sub folders, but you have to do it manually.

The add-on may look very simple, but it will be very useful in quickly locating the important folders on your Thunderbird application. This is a must have add-on for people who use Thunderbird as their primary email client and manage a lot of folders in it. How To Compress Images Without Losing Its Quality

The days of low resolution grainy photographs have been gone. Nowadays, Smartphones and digital cameras have reached 4K resolution and offers photographs and videos with very high quality. The high resolution images also increased the file size on the other side. Though we have many cloud services which offers huge storage space, we cannot fill all those spaces with our images alone. Recently Canon launched its new Cloud Service called Irista, which offers 10GB of storage space to store images alone. Some of the compression techniques may reduce the quality of the image to reduce its size. Today I’ve come with a new web application called “Compressor.io”, which lets you compress the images without losing its quality. Here’s how it works.

Compressor is a free web app to quickly compress large size images without reducing its quality. You can visit Compressor.io to start using the application. You don’t need to register or connect your social accounts to use the app. You can upload images straight away as soon as you reach the website. The only catch in the application is, you cannot upload file size more than 10MB and only one picture can be compressed at a time. Except that, i t can quickly upload and compress your images.

The web app supports four different image formats like JPG, PNG, GIF and SVG. Also, it offers two types of compression called “Lossy” and “Lossless”. Lossy compression will reduce very minute amount of image quality and offers compression of 80% of the image size. Lossless will not touch the quality of the image and offers compression of 60% of the image size. The process of uploading and compression is pretty quick and the real time slider after the compression will show the difference between the original and the compressed image.

Another impor tant feature in Compressor is, you can save the compressed image to your Dropbox and Google Drive account right from the application. You can compress any number of images for free, but only one at a time. For people who use high resolution cameras, this will be a great tool to save space on their storage devices. Canon’s New Cloud Storage Offers 10GB of Cloud Space For Free

There is no shortage for cloud services on the Internet. Plenty of cloud services offers more than 100GB of cloud space for free users. There is always a difference between native cloud support of the application and using a third party cloud service. For instance, Facebook has native cloud support which helps users to upload pictures, videos, notes, etc., from their account. Native cloud support has become a must for all the popular web apps. Canon has recently joined the race and introduced its new cloud service called “Irista”, which offers 10GB of Cloud space for free. Lets have a look at the features and functions of the app.

Irista is pretty different from the normal cloud services. Unlike other services, you cannot upload all types of files to your Cloud account, only image files can be uploaded in that 10GB of storage space. It supports all types of image files and there is no file size limit in uploading the images. So, it will be a great destination for photographers to organize their photographs. The regular tag and search feature is available to categorize and quickly find the images. The tags can be created based on the location, the time and the lens that you’ve used.

Irista lets you connect your Facebook and Flickr accounts to share the photographs on your timeline. It is just like any other cloud services out there. There are no special features available to edit or enhance the images you upload. Canon may include those options in the future. The application has both free and premium accounts available. Storage is the primary difference between the free and premium users. Right now premium accounts are available only in selected countries for Europe/UK users.

Except the storage there is no difference in features for free and premium users. So, rest of users around the world can enjoy the free account with 10GB of cloud space. It will be a great application for serious photographers and normal users can keep this a library to organize their photographs. Firefox: Tweet any page or link using context menu with Tweet Context

Twitter, an online social networking service that enables users to send and read short 140-character text messages, called “tweets”, is definitely one of the most used services that people are using nowadays. A lot of applications are coming on regular basis to enhance users Twitter experience. ‘Tweet Context’ is one of them.

You come across an interesting link, a picture or even text, to share it on Twitter, you have to go copy the link, log in Twitter, paste and share it. Tweet Context, however, shortens that procedure. It is a free add-on for Firefox browser that gives you the ability to send almost anything to Twitter via context menu.

With Tweet Context, you cannot only tweet a link or an image, you can even tweet bookmarks, whole webpage, a frame (right click, view sour ce), selected text and even a page tab, all using your context menu.

An important advantage in accessing these apps from your desktop is, it can be used even when you are not connected to the internet. Now many important apps extended its functionality and gives offline support. I’ve handpicked five best applications in that and listed below.

Work Flowy

WorkFlowy is a simple and powerful task managing application for Chrome. It is a very flexible note taking application for Chrome. The inbuilt nested list feature will let the users to create separate categories to arrange their notes and to-do lists. No matter it is an individual or a company, WorkFlowy will let you easily handle and organize any of tasks at the same time. Instead of having a separate PDF Converter for your PC and browser, you can install “Any Files to PDF” in Chrome to quickly convert files into PDF documents even when you are not connected to the Internet. You can convert more than 100 file formats into a PDF document using this application.

Sketchpad is an image and vector editing application for Chrome. The native HTML5 support lets you edit all the HTML5 documents quickly using the app. It lets you import images and files from your computer and edit easily. Pocket

Uptime tab shows you your computer’s current uptime, total uptime, longest uptime and average uptime along-with how many times you rebooted it. There’s a reboot calendar and applications activity shown as well.

All in all, it’s an amazing application that will help you monitor your computer usage easily.

Android: Find out which application is accessing your personal data with MyPermissions

If you don’t know, Google recently made a change to the way it handles permissions on Google Play Store. Previously, users were notified if any new permissions were added after an app update via the Google Play Store. But now, a user will only be notified that there’s been a change if a new group is added and permissions can be added without their knowledge. Because of this new policy, a developer can grant themselves new permissions of your phone without you knowing anything about it.

New Mac OS X Yosemite Transformation Pack For Windows

Compared to other popular operating systems, Windows has many beautiful transformation packs available. It can completely change the look and feel of the interface. The default “Personalize” option in Windows, can customize only the wallpapers and window colors, but transformation packs can take the look to a whole new level. Apple released its new Mac OS X Yosemite, in their recent WWDC event, happened last week. Since many Windows users love the Mac interface, the first Yosemite transformation pack is released by Windows X live. OS X Yosemite has got a brand new interface and new icons from its predecessors. Many features have been added to integrate iOS 8 devices with Yosemite. Except the features, all the icon designs will be applied to your Windows applications. The installation is pretty simple.

1. Download the package from Windows X Live  and change the file extension from “.zip_” to “.zip” to activate the file. The package will come around 50MB and installation is pretty quick as compared to other themes for Windows.

2. Before you install the package, it is recommended to create a system restore point, to backup your data if something goes wrong.

3. Extract the package and right click the “Yosemite UX 1.o” and select “Run as administrator” to start the installation process. Once the installation is complete, it will display a configuration page to customize the theme.

4. On the configuration page you need to disable the “make Windowsxlive the homepage” to get the complete Yosemite look. Reboot your Windows machine to apply the changes.

All the Yosemite and iOS 8 wallpapers from Apple will be available in the theme package. Also, the new dock, introduced in Yosemite will be available on your home screen. Very minor tweaks are available for the theme and most of the important patches will be done automatically by the application. So, any type of user can easily install this theme on his Windows machine. The application supports from Windows XP to Windows 8.1. This will be very useful for old version users to get a new look from their old boring interface.

Assuming you have downloaded the app. Before showing your friends the picture you want to, launch the app, go to your photo album and choose/tap the pictures you want to show. Tap “Here, Look” and hand the phone to your friend. They’ll see a full-screen gallery of just those photos, which they can scroll through as much as they want.

Set the Bing daily image as your wallpaper in Chrome OS

For sometime now, Windows users have been able to set the Bing daily image as their desktop wallpaper and, in addition, choose from an array of special Bing themes. But now Microsoft is opening the platform up, and allowing those using Google’s Chrome OS to make the most of the gorgeous images.

If you already have a Chromebook, then you’re aware of how everything works, and that it’s a bit more like Windows than most people would expect. The operating system contains all of the familiar features, like a task bar, system tray and even allows for custom desktop wallpaper.

However, Google only has a limited number of choices for this background image, much as Windows comes with options for several stock choices. Now Microsoft is stepping in and opening things up, allowing it’s Bing images to be set in automatic rotation with Chrome OS, which means users will have a brand new wallpaper each and every day.

Here’s how to do it. Get started by heading to the Google Chrome Web Store to grab the free app, which is not much different from its Windows counterpart in what it is capable of.

Once installed, it will begin changing the wallpaper to that of the Bing daily image. Bear in mind, that this will not work on any operating system but Chrome OS, though there is a Windows version. You will also need to be running the developer version of Chrome OS. That is not particularly difficult, but it does involve a bit of hackery, roughly akin to rooting an Android device. Intermediate and advanced users will have no problems pulling that off.

The extension will warn you if the website doesn’t have “HTTPS” connection. Most of the websites have both “HTTP” and “HTTPS” connection. Sometimes it will connect through “HTTP” by default. This extension will change “HTTPS” as a default gateway to all your websites.

Privacy Badger

Privacy Badger protects the security of your browser by blocking the third party applications which track you on the web. There will be three different signals to let you know whether the web application is tracking you or not. The “Red”, show the application is tracking you, “Yellow” means don’t share any cookies or user data with the website and “Green” shows the website is safe to browse and will not any track you. If you think the website has been blocked by mistake, you can override the extension in the “Settings” menu.

Trustwave Secure Browsing

Trustwave protects you from malicious links on the websites you visit. Either you are searching on Google or browsing on your Facebook timeline, it will show you which links are safe to open. Also, when you receive a link in your email, this extension will scan that link and let you know whether it is safe to open or not. All the links appear on the websites will be automatically scanned by Trustwave to protect your security. It is a must have extension for all the Chrome users.

The Modern New Tab page has simple and flat style icons, which has links of the popular web applications. The same tiles look will be available in this extension, but it lets you change the background, color of the tiles and icons, opacity, etc.. To configure the extension, click the “+” button on the right to start customizing it.  In that window, you can add a website URL and its RSS Feeds links to get the updates on your new tab page. Also, you change the tiles and font color, add your own image and do many more tweaks in that same window.

Lightning New Tab

The biggest advantage of Lightning New Tab is, it allows you to add more shortcuts to the speed dial. So, you can quickly open the links of the websites you need. The dock at the bottom of the screen contains all the necessary options like bookmarks, installed extensions, search option, current weather and much more. To add links to the speed dial, click the “+” button on the dock, it will open a new window. It has all the popular websites on the list and you can add your own link in the “Manual” section.

FVD Speed Dial

FVD offers the speed dial in a three dimensional wall. The application is available for Android, iOS and for Windows Phones. So, all your links and settings will be synced to all the other devices. All the installed apps will be available on the left panel and the speed dial contains important links and most visited websites. Settings of the extension will be available in the top right corner, where you can add your own links to the speed dial. Also, you can import/export the settings if you switch to a different PC.

Momentum

Momentum is one of my favorite new tab page extensions for Chrome. After you install the app, it will ask you to enter your name and it will automatically identify your location. There will be a big blank space asking you to enter “What’s your main focus today?” Enter your primary goal of that day and everytime you open a new tab, it will remind you. Also, there will be a quote below that to motivate you to do that. The wallpaper and the motivating quote will change every day and give a new insipiring look. You can enter a check list of to-dos on the right side of the window.

Instead of doing that, today I’ve come with a new application called “CoCoppa”, which helps you personalize your Android and iOS devices with cute themes. Frankly speaking, the app is totally designed for girls. The colorful themes, wallpapers and icons will be liked by all the girls and kids. Instead of rooting or jailbreaking your Smartphone to customize it, you can try this app to make your device more colorful. Lets have a look at the features and functions of the application.

CoCoPPa is a free application for Android and iOS devices. Once you download and install the app, you can start browsing all the themes and wallpapers in the application. To use those themes in your device, you need to register with the app. After you complete the registration process, you can start downloading the themes you need. Apart from the default themes, users will also upload their own themes in the app. Theme installation is pretty quick as compared to other launchers for Android. Doing things at the right moment will save a lot of time and will bring a positive attitude towards your life. In our busy schedule, we often forget things and miss the oppurtunities. Since, everything has become digitized, maintaining your t0-do list in a sticky note on your desk is not going to work. There are plenty of to-do list managing applications available for Smartphones and Tablets. Especially Android devices have many efficient to-do list managing apps on the Play Store. I’ve handpicked few best apps in that and listed below.

Google Keep

Google Keeps is an excellent notes application which helps to create a to-do list on the go. It supports text, images, voice memo, etc. So you can add your tasks in any form as a reminder to complete them on time. Also, you can organize the notes with different colors and categories on the application. Priority of the tasks can be assigned by giving a different number of stars to a task. Tasks with more numbers of stars will carry the highest priority. All the created tasks and notes can be assigned to different categories to organize it.

Remember The Milk

Remember The Milk is yet another interesting to-do list application for Android. All the basic functions like creating location based tasks, organize tasks with labels, repeating tasks, etc., are available. The app lets you organize the notes and tasks based on different conditions like priorities, due dates, tags and much more. In the free version of the app, you can sync your tasks and notes only once in a day. To upgrade to the premium account, you have to pay $25/year.

Evernote

Evernote is one of the well-known notes application across platforms. It is a full fledged app with plenty of features to create tasks and reminders, take notes and much more on the go. It lets you add text, images, audio and your own voice into the notes you create. All the tasks and notes you create can be synced to all the other devices. Evernote has add-ons  like Skitcher, Web Clipper, etc., to edit images and quickly save links while you browse. The clutter free interface gives a good readability on the notes you create.

Manage Different Browser Plugins Using Wise Plugin Manager For Windows

The basic features and options in a browser will not meet all the requirements of a user. That’s why we have plenty of plugins available for all the leading browsers on the Internet. Plugins helps the browsers to enhance its functionality by bringing more features from the third party apps. These extensions will help improve the privacy of your browser, stay focused on your work and much more. Chrome and Firefox are the commonly used browsers. They both have plenty of extensions in their respective web stores.

Previously, I wrote a simple extensions manager for Chrome, to manage all the installed extensions from a single place. Today I’ve come with a new application called “Wise Plugin Manager”, which lets you manage all your browser plugins from  a single place on your Windows machine. Here’s how it works.

Wise Plugin Manager is a free application for Windows. You can download the app using the link at the end of this post. It supports Google Chrome, Mozilla  Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer. Once you complete the installation, the app will take you to the home page where you have the list of all the supported browsers on the left panel. Using this application, you can set or change any browser on that list as your default browser. Only the installed browsers will be highlighted, other will be disabled.

When you select a browser on the left panel, all the installed plugins will be displayed on the right. You can quickly enable/disable the extensions from the application window. Also, it lets you remove the unwanted extensions from your browser easily. It will free up a lot of space on your browser and increase the speed. When you disable or delete the extension, that particular browser should be closed, otherwise it won’t work. The app has an option to give ratings for the installed extensions on your browser. Based on the performance, you can give ratings for the extensions to help the other users.

The Wise Plugin Manager is now in the beta stage. Only basic management options were available right now. Adding more useful functions and features will make this app more efficient to manage browser extensions on your PC.
